Put walking on the ballot! Take the Pima County Bond Survey

You’ve heard us say it many times, and we’ll say it many times more: everyone is a pedestrian. We’ve all been there; waiting to try and cross a busy street with cars speeding by at 45mph; clinging to the shade of a telephone pole while waiting for a ride; going for a walk with an elderly neighbor or a grandparent and having to help them get off the curb because there’s no ramp down.  Our entire region needs major improvements so that we can all walk safely and comfortably, but right now there’s virtually no money specifically designated for making those improvements. That’s why we’re going for it!

LSA is proposing that the next Pima County Bond include a pot of money designated for making walking better in our region.

Sidewalks, shade trees, push-button signals, better and more crosswalks,… whatever it takes on the ground to make it easier for us all to choose walking, because our health and the health of our community, the environment, and the quality of the air we breath all depend on it.

We need your help to make it happen!  Here’s 3 easy ways to do it:

1. Take the Pima County Bond Survey.

The County has set up a survey to see what the funding priorities of the community are and you can weigh in now through August 2nd.  It only takes a few minutes to do.  Click on the following link to begin the survey:

When you get to the screen asking you to prioritize “Public Health, Flood Control, Neighborhood Reinvestment and Government Facilities”, make sure to check the box next to “Pedestrian Safety and Walkability Improvements”

At the end of the survey there’s a “Comment” box.  We encourage you to tell the Bond Advisory Committee how important walking is to you.

Once you’re finished, please tell your friends and family to do the same!

2. Pledge your support for walking through our “I Want to Walk” campaign.

It’s simple: go to our I Want to Walk pledge page, and fill in the info.  We’d like to gather 1,000 voices in support of a walkable region so that when we talk to elected officials, we can show that people of all ages and abilities from throughout the region care about being able to walk safely, conveniently, and comfortably.

3. Make a contribution to LSA.

Make a donation of $5, $10, or whatever you can to help further our impact.  We’re working around the clock to make the greater Tucson region a place where you and your family can walk for a variety of needs and purposes.  Through this bond program, our neighborhood walking assessments, by advocating for our shared walking needs, and more, we are working for you!  We need your support to make it happen!
