EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GO CAR-FREE THIS CYCLOVIA SUNDAY

Tucson, AZ (October 23, 2024) – Living Streets Alliance invites people of all ages and abilities to Cyclovia Tucson on Sunday, October 27th from 9 AM to 3 PM. Streets on the Cyclovia Downtown—South Tucson route will be temporarily closed to car traffic and open to people to walk, roll, bike, and play.

Six hours and 2.25 miles of car-free streets are great, by why stop there? Make Cyclovia Sunday a car-lite or entirely car-free day by taking advantage of free transit, bike routes, or micromobility to get to and from the event. Here are ways to plan your route and make it happen:

1. Give transit a try—it’s free!

Sun Tran Bus Lines 2, 12, 18, and 23 all have stops within walking distance of the route, and all buses have racks in the front if you want to bring your bicycle with you. You can find directions by using Google Maps from your house to your arrival destination and selecting the transit mode. Sun Tran also has an online trip planner tool that’s easy to use. (Bonus: Sun Tran will also be stationary on the route so you can practice putting your bike on and off their racks, pressure free, during the event.) Tucson’s Sun Link Streetcar is also a great option. Commute to either end of the line then enjoy a smooth, cool ride the rest of the way: the Broadway & 6th stop will deliver you to just one block north of the route!

2. Ride a bike

If you want to bike to Cyclovia, you can utilize one of the City’s low-stress routes (Bicycle Boulevards) to get to the event. The El Paso & Southwestern Greenway meets the route at 8th Avenue and 35th Street, right next to the Arizona Complete Health Hub @ Mission View, the southern terminus of the route. You can also connect from the Chuck Huckelberry Loop west of the route via Cushing Street, 18th Street, and Julian Wash Greenway. Find and plan your route at: https://bit.ly/4edJVQB. And don’t forget to take advantage of free bike repair at all Activity Hubs and free youth helmets at Info Booths.

3. Share a bike or scooter

Micromobility is perfect for making short distance connections. Find a scooter near you or grab a Tugo and you can leave it at the event. Tugo Bikeshare has made rentals from nearby stations free for the day! Check out their map of stations across Tucson to see the docking station closest to your home. Stop by their permanent stations at Armory Park or Santa Rosa Park/Drachman Montessori, or the pop-up station at the Luna Y Sol Hub (8th Avenue and 29th Street) to pick up a bike to cruise the route with.

Living Streets Alliance’s 21st Cyclovia Tucson event is presented by Arizona Complete Health and made possible with support from numerous partners and sponsors, including Banner—University Medicine and Banner—University Family Care, the City of Tucson, the City of South Tucson, Tucson Water, AARP Arizona, Downtown Tucson Partnership, and Pima County Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Air Program. Visit www.cycloviatucson.org for more information.

As part of the global “open streets” movement, Cyclovia Tucson is a unique opportunity for people of all ages and “walks” of like to envision a city with safer, more sustainable mobility options for everyone, amidst thriving and enjoyable public spaces. A variety of local organizations, including a wide range of businesses and community groups, along with diverse Tucson residents of all ages and abilities participate in the temporary transformation of our streets into car-free spaces where freedom of movement and connection are centered.

Cyclovia Tucson is a program of Living Streets Alliance (LSA), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform our streets into vibrant public places that bring people together and provide safe, accessible, and attractive transportation options. LSA is increasing healthy, dignified, sustainable transportation in Tucson through outreach, education, and advocacy. For more information visit www.livingstreetsalliance.org.
