123 activities and culinary destinations to check out this Sunday during Cyclovia Tucson

Tucson, AZ (October 25, 2019) – Cyclovia Tucson returns to La Doce—South 12th Avenue—this Sunday, October 27th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The event will pass through a thriving business district, touch some of Tucson’s most well-established neighborhoods, and feature involvement from dozens of community groups, schools, businesses and organizations along 3.75 miles of the Avenue, stretching from 39th Street to Mission Manor Park.

Living Street Alliance, organizer of the event, anticipates that cooler temperatures and near-perfect weather conditions will draw upward of 40,000 people of all ages out to explore over 123 listed activities lining the route.

There are many ways to make the day completely car-free. Participants who are familiar with previous “Downtown to South Tucson” Cyclovia event routes can use South 8th Avenue to connect at West 37th Street to South 10th Avenue, to 39th Street which will connect to the Julian Wash Pima County Loop and deliver participants to the northernmost activity hub at South 12th Avenue and West 39th Street. From the west, anyone can hop on the Santa Cruz River Park portions of The Loop from the north or the south and intersect with the route at the Julian Wash Archeological Park.

From there, participants will find dozens of activities, vendors, food booths, and free bicycle repair before arriving at the Arts Foundation for Southern Arizona-sponsored Youth Mariachi Showcase directly in front of Pueblo High School. After taking in some local talent, participants will head east to the future Liberty Bicycle Boulevard to cross Ajo Way, then reconnect with South 12th Avenue at Palmdale where a cool, syrupy raspado from Oasis Raspados may be necessary while enjoying music from the all-female Norteño band –Las Trillizas y Dulce.

The route continues along South 12th Avenue past iconic businesses such as BK Carne Asada y Tacos, famous for the Sonoran Hot Dog, which will host a freezip line, the Tucson Roadrunners and Arizona Coyote hockey street teams will be out with several activities for all-ages, and there will be live music by Diluvio and Pedro y Los Líricos adjacent to the Dragoon Brewing Company beer garden.

The City of Tucson will host an interactive demonstration for the future South 12th Avenue Road Diet project near the La Estrella Bakery community altar for Día de los Muertos at Nebraska Street.

Burning off those calories shouldn’t be a problem as participants make their way to the Arizona Complete Health Activity Hub at Mission Manor Park, filled with free Zumba classes, Spanish-language story times at 11:00am and 11:30am, an all-ages music Jam-boree with Mr. Nature’s Music Garden at 12:00pm and the Hollywood Knights will play oldies, old school, and Tex-Mex hits until the event ends at 3pm. In Mission Manor Park there will also be free health screening provided by Arizona Complete Health –title sponsor of the event–and a free rock climbing wall.
