Hundreds of activities at Cyclovia in October
Tucson, AZ (September 28, 2022) – Living Streets Alliance invites the public to enjoy car-free streets on our new Thrive in the 05 route. Streets are open to attendees to walk, roll, bike, and play at this free event on Sunday, October 30th from 9am to 3pm.
During Cyclovia Tucson neighbors, sponsors, and community organizations set up activities all along the route to contribute to a full, dynamic day. Games, food trucks, music, giveaways, and much more await you at the biggest block party in Arizona. With so many things to do, activities are grouped at Activity Hubs which you can explore on the interactive map https://app.cycloviatucson.org/map. Here’s a preview of the day:
Arizona Complete Health Hub @ Mansfield Park
Our title sponsor will be providing health screening and assessments, including free mammograms for individuals over the age of 35. Stop by for a COVID vaccine, and to learn more about living a long, healthy life. While you’re there, get active with City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Ready, Set Rec!, a mobile recreation van that provides games for all ages such as Connect 4, ring toss, hula hoops, and more. Fill up your bottle at the Tucson Water truck, take a tour of amenities and the Donna Liggins Center, and enjoy a set from KXCI DJs. Or try your hand at fencing or pole vaulting, or visit Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports to test drive a handcycle or recumbent bike. If you forgot to wear your Halloween costume, get festive with free face painting at this Hub, sponsored by Arizona Complete Health.
Living Streets Alliance Beer Garden & Hospitality Tent
Living Streets Alliance (LSA) hosts Cyclovia semi-annually to invite people to experience their streets in a new way: as car-free, care-free, living public spaces. Streets create a sense of place within communities and connect people to places and each other. Cyclovia amplifies unique places in Tucson by supporting local businesses, highlighting vibrant spaces that create community year-round, and sharing neighborhood stories from community leaders, residents and organizations.
Learn more about Living Streets Alliance and Cyclovia when you visit the LSA Hospitality Tent. Grab some Cyclovia merch and cool off with a refreshing brew or sparkling water at the beer garden, with pours provided by Dragoon Brewing Company and Pueblo Vida Brewing Company. Proceeds benefit LSA’s year-round advocacy work for more vibrant and complete streets throughout the city. Plus, you’ll get a great view of the high-flying Genuine BMX course.
Pima Community College Hub
Check out what’s under the hood of a semi with the Truck Driver Training, learn more about dual enrollment for the teen in your life, and explore other activities with Pima Community College. Pima County Department of Environmental Quality Clean Air Program partners with Living Streets Alliance to encourage a car-lite lifestyle. Take their pledge to protect the air, the earth, and your health. When you’re ready for a break from the excitement of the route, chill out at the Cigna Lounge and fill up at their Hydration Station. Then take a spin on a rented e-scooter or practice putting your bike onto a Suntran bus at this mobility-focused Hub!
Dunbar Pavilion Hub
This Hub is hosted at the Dunbar Pavilion, where you can learn more about the historic Dunbar-Spring neighborhood through a brand-new Augmented Reality exhibit. Visit The Heritage Market presented by the Tucson Urban League, where you can celebrate and support local Black businesses. Markets normally take place on the third Saturday of the month featuring food and lifestyle vendors, music and performances, and education and advocacy information, but this month you can also check it out at Cyclovia! Pick up your next read at the Pima County Public Library Bookbike. Decorate your bike and join one of El Grupo’s bike parades leaving from this Hub!
Esquer Park Hub
Great music and games activate this beautiful neighborhood park. Pepe Galvez will pay homage to the historic Blue Moon Ballroom with a live DJ set. Stop by the AARP Arizona lounge and photo booth for a rest and a memento of your time on the route. Pick up free, native plants and learn more about rainwater harvesting with Tucson Clean and Beautiful and Watershed Management Group. Then, take a tour of the Barrio Blue Moon Community Garden to see how others are harvesting fruits and vegetables in their neighborhood.
Old Pascua Hub
Find some treasures at the art and artisan market at the Old Pascua Hub at Richey Resource Center. Don’t miss the Yoeme Unidos Heritage Mural and the Old Pascua Museum and Cultural Center booth. Enjoy live music all day, curated by KPYT 100.3/100.7 FM, “The Voice of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.” Catch local artists including Fred Colmenero, Sensei Sai, The DRB, Tu-Roc CeAZe and Xquisite. Try out the El Rio obstacle course and grab a free COVID testing kit from the Pima County Health Department.
BICAS Block Party
Take a detour off the main route to visit the BICAS Block Party. Ride “mutant” bikes through a spooky themed obstacle course, enjoy Trick or Trick station and face painting, or come enter the costume contest for a chance to win a prize. Their Fix-a-Flat station will be available and the shop will be open to the public for any basic bike needs such as new tubes or patch kits. You can also pick up some new digs at the Cero Zero Waste clothing swap, and learn more about future community bike rides by visiting the FUGA table.
All Activity Hubs will have live performances or local DJs, food trucks, activities, games, and free bike repair from local bike shops including REI, TREK, Roadrunner Bicycles, and Campfire Cycling.
Stop by any of five information booths to get directions, refill your water bottle with Sparkletts water, and find water bowls for your four-legged Cyclovista. Also pick up a ‘Cinco for Cyclovia’ scavenger hunt game card or a free youth bike helmet. Alternatively, you can use the Cyclovia interactive, searchable map on the website from your smartphone to find food trucks, restrooms, entertainment, and activities on-the-go.
