Construction nears on initial Prop 407 “Connections” projects

City of Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility (DTM) is in the final design stages of the Roger Road Pedestrian Safety and Walkability Project which will provide complete and connected sidewalks on both sides of Roger Road from Oracle to Romero, enhanced street crossing, streetlights, and landscaping and public art for shade and beautification. The improvements are intended to help create a safe and comfortable path for people walking and using assistive mobility devices. This project is funded by Proposition 407, a bond package approved by voters to fund improvements to parks and construction of new walking and biking routes. Roger Road was initially identified as a location for walkability improvements during a Neighborhood Walkability Assessment LSA hosted with the Flowing Wells area neighbors.

We’ve been partnering with DTM to help engage in the project conversations a broader and more diverse group of people who live and travel in the area. Early on in the process, we hosted a pop-up park and conducted on-street interviews with people who are out and about on Roger Road to help shape the project scope. Engagement activities have gone mostly virtual due to the pandemic, so if you live, walk, or roll in the project area, we invite you to share your thoughts via the survey and the map tool on the project website and tune into the virtual town hall next week.
