Introducing Cyclovita!

Our well-loved Cyclovia Tucson events have been taking advantage of our largest public space - our streets - for over a decade. Twice a year they work to reimagine Tucson’s streets as places for people of all-ages to engage in activities that bring them together, to socialize, support local business, explore the city, and move freely! Think of it as a really long block party; a miles-long activation of street space to elevate and celebrate community.

Every year the thing we hear the most from community is that they want more Open Streets events like Cyclovia! And the second most heard request is if they can get a Cyclovia in their neighborhood. Enter Cyclovita!

Cyclovita was born out of a desire from our city to see more events that activate our streets, and we can finally offer just that.

These mini-Cyclovia events are hyper-focused on the neighborhoods they activate, and are tailored to the needs of the community and neighbors that live within them. The routes for Cyclovita events will run much shorter than its Cyclovia counterparts, usually only between 0.5 miles to 1 mile, and will connect community hubs to one another. The main goal being to bring neighbors to these community spaces and help activate the streets for play, biking, walking, dancing and meeting each other.

After getting the first Cyclovita under our belts, we will craft a toolkit detailing the ins and outs of making this event happen, so we can then share with neighbors and community organizers. With the help of the toolkit, we will hopefully see these mini open streets events popping-up all around the city! What a dream it would be to enjoy dozens of days of car-free, care-free streets in our Tucson neighborhoods happening independent of LSA.
