Big discussions about transportation result in Tucson special election this May
Transportation funding has been a big topic of conversation in Tucson over the past year, especially around renewal of the region's 1/2 cent sales tax to fund transportation, the RTA. With the current tax set to expire in 2026, Regional Council has been trying to prepare a proposal to take before voters soon, reauthorizing the sales tax. The first two months of 2022 have made it clear that the transportation priorities and needs of Tucson will not be met if the renewed sales tax (which is being called RTA Next) isn't significantly different from the one approved by voters in 2016. Tucson's main priorities are rooted in a complete streets approach to upgrading its transportation network and maintaining the pavement of the roads and streets it already has in place.
While the future of RTA reauthorization is still unclear, Tucson made a big decision this month to take matters into its own hands. The city is moving forward with its own initiative to start funding the transportation priorities voiced by Tucsonans through Move Tucson, their city-wide mobility master plan.

A look at Tucson's Complete Streets efforts three years in
"We continue to design and operate streets that prioritize the speedy movement of vehicles at the expense of safety for all people who use them" states Smart Growth America. February 5th marked the three-year anniversary of Tucson’s Complete Streets policy. Over the past three years, from our policy makers to journalists, we have witnessed more and more people embracing the concept and referencing “Complete Streets.” Perhaps you have a vague idea of what this means. But what exactly are Complete Streets?

Volunteer for Cyclovia!
Volunteering at Cyclovia looks like talking with neighbors, moving cones, putting up yard signs, taking pictures, and more to help folks in Tucson better connect to place, each other, and community resources. Together, we get to set the stage to celebrate what's thriving in Tucson and show what happens when people take up more space in the streets.
Cyclovia takes a large team putting in the hours and enthusiasm to bring together this fun one day event. Cyclovia is just four weeks away and there's lots to do to get ready! If you want to plug-in to outreach events, clean-ups, and day-of volunteering, check out your options by clicking the button below and sign up today. We're ready for you!

Give your old camera a new life with LSA
Do you have an old (but nice!) digital camera or phone that you're not using? We're looking to collect a few devices to have on hand while we do group bike rides with our Safe Routes to School bike clubs, show up at community events, and equip our neighborhood ambassadors with a high quality way of capturing what's going on.
