After Two Year Wait, Living Streets Alliance Announces Date For Next Cyclovia Tucson—Arizona’s Biggest Block Party—Event, Reveals Brand New Way “To Cyclovia” Now Through April

Tucson, AZ (September 28, 2021) — With Fall in the air, Living Streets Alliance is excited to debut an all new way to experience the joys and adventure of Cyclovia Tucson—Arizona’s biggest block party—with the launch of Cyclovia Remix. Now through March 2022, Tucsonans can explore six routes over six months, spanning twenty Tucson neighborhoods and multiple business districts.

Commemorating ten years of Open Streets in Tucson, Cyclovia Remix features a past Cyclovia Tucson route each month, highlighting the people, places, and partners that bring it to life each and every day. Tucsonans can enjoy the route in real time or virtually, at their own pace, through an assortment of pop-up events, group rides, route games, and more. A community calendar makes it easy to host your own ride, activity, or meet-up, or join in events hosted by community organizations in the area, while route maps highlight great local businesses to visit during the month.

Cyclovia Remix kicks off this October with a return to La Doce (S. 12th Ave), with local DJ-curated playlists, scavenger hunts, free mobile bike repair, pop-up screen printing, and chances to share Cyclovia stories.

Cyclovia Tucson  rolled out the route in October 2017 and again in October 2019. Now, almost exactly two years later, businesses and partners are ready for its return. “I feel that it is important to highlight local businesses on the south side because we are competing against large corporate businesses that offer competitive prices and wages yet they do not understand and give back to our community the way we do,” says Mateo Otero, owner of Rollie’s Mexican Patio.

Cyclovia Remix creates an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to get excited about their streets as shared public spaces. "As the graphic design teacher and bicycle club manager, it's important for me to see students connected to their streets in artistic and physical ways--taking up space as they pave the way for the future," shares Ernesto Somoza, teacher at Pueblo High. For La Doce Remix route, Somoza worked with his students to create a limited-edition sticker that will be available at Remix events and select businesses along the route all month long.

The next regular Cyclovia Tucson event will take place on Sunday, March 27, 9 AM - 3 PM along the Downtown—South Tucson route connecting two cities and some of Tucson’s oldest neighborhoods. This was the route set for the April 2020 event, which had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After conducting a community survey over the summer, Living Streets Alliance decided to wait until spring for a large in-person event, switching it up with something new and different in the meantime.

“Tucsonans are resilient, resourceful, creative, and caring. They’ve showed up for Cyclovia Tucson in a big way since the beginning and we’re excited to have a way to show up, in turn, for the communities, businesses, and partners that have hosted these events in their neighborhood with us over the years,” says Emily Yetman, Executive Director of Living Streets Alliance. “Remix feels like the perfect hybrid approach to bring together the key ingredients of Cyclovia Tucson so we don’t have to wait any longer to enjoy it, pandemic or not.”

Cyclovia Remix is a program of Living Streets Alliance, made possible with generous support from the City of Tucson, TMC Healthcare, Trek, AARP Tucson, Cigna, Pima County’s Clean Air Program, Tucson Water, Arizona Complete Health, Cycling Advocates of Southern Arizona, and dozens of additional community partners and sponsors.

The mission of Living Streets Alliance (LSA) is “to advocate for a thriving Tucson by creating great streets for all of us.” LSA is improving access to active modes of transportation in the Tucson region through outreach, education, advocacy and research.
