Cyclovia Sunday: What to know before you go
Tucson, AZ (March 25, 2022) – After 2.5 years, Cyclovia Tucson is back for a five-mile-long block party connecting Downtown Tucson and the City of South Tucson. Cyclovia Tucson temporarily closes streets for the public to walk, roll, bike, and play. Living Streets Alliance invites people of all ages and abilities to this free event Sunday, March 27th from 9am to 3pm.
The key to making this 40,000 person event successful is the many partners who lend their creativity and energy . Behind every giveaway and activity is a community organizer, leader, or member with a heart to see other Tucsonans thrive. On Sunday, attendees will deeply feel that as they connect with place and each other. Downtown and South Tucson Partners, the City of Tucson, and the Pima Department of Environmental Quality contribute in important ways to make this event possible.
Before you go, here are five things to know:
1. Cyclovia welcomes everyone.
It is important for attendees to keep their speeds slow out of respect and safety for all people on the route. For any concerns or questions, stop by any of five information booths along the route. Here, you can also see the full route, pick up dog treats, masks, water, and free youth helmets.
Attendees are also welcome to take a Cinco for Cyclovia scavenger hunt card and win prizes for playing.
2. Use the interactive map.
If you have a smartphone, utilize the interactive, searchable map on the Cyclovia website to find food trucks, restrooms, and activities. Alternatively, you may stop by an information booth for this information.
3. Cyclovia has hundreds of activities for you to enjoy.
Seven different activity hubs placed along the route will include local DJs, performances, food trucks, games, activities, and lots of giveaways provided by hundreds of community partners.
Start your day watching BMX bike jump stunts or with dance lessons at Banner–University Medicine Hub at Jácome Plaza downtown. Enjoy a chilled brew from Dragoon Brewing Company at the beer garden or purchase the new Cyclovia t-shirt at the Living Streets Alliance Hospitality Tent located at The Downtown Clifton Hub.
Swing by a clothing swap hosted by Cero or cruise through the Tucson Water storm tunnel at the Drachman Hub. Play a life-sized game of chess or Jenga with Tucson Parks and Recreation Ready, Set, Rec! vans at Santa Rita Park. Test your balance skills at the BICAS mutant bike obstacle course at Ochoa Community School.
Check out local entertainment, live mural-painting, and enter a raffle for scooters, Hydroflasks, bike panniers, and Loop jerseys at the Pima Department of Environmental Quality on the Move Hub at Mission View. At the Galeria Mitotera and Avenidas Hub, join an interactive art demonstration, eat local food, and enjoy music from this community and pop-up art space.
4. Play Cinco for Cyclovia and win prizes for completing activities on the route.
Play Cinco for Cyclovia, a bingo treasure hunt to find Featured Activity Partners on the route.
You’ll get a sticker at each Cinco for Cyclovia partner when you complete their activity or challenge. Create a five-in-a-row “bingo” on your game card to be entered to win prizes at any Info Booth.
5. Support Living Streets Alliance.
If you love Cyclovia, donate $5 or more to support their ongoing efforts to bring Tucson's streets to life. Cyclovia Tucson is their biggest program, but you will see their other projects on Sunday. Traffic circle murals like the ones at Mission View Elementary (8th Ave & 36th St) and Ochoa Community School (8th Ave & 35th St) are one of many ways they work with communities to transform our shared streets in Tucson.
Here are some other details to plan your day or way to Cyclovia:
Since public transportation is free, Living Streets Alliance encourages you to utilize the bus or modern streetcar to arrive at the event. For those arriving by bicycle, connect via The Loop or Tucson’s Bicycle Boulevard network and be sure to stop by the parked Sun Tran bus at Drachman Montessori Hub to practice taking your bicycle on and off the bus. For those driving, plenty of parking is available in garages downtown, and bikes and scooters can be rented from the micromobility hub near the Five Points intersection.
If Cyclovia is taking place in your neighborhood, Living Streets Alliance invites you to join the fun with your own block party setup. Neighbors will be reminded the day before to remove their vehicles from the route during the event, and helpful event volunteers will be stationed at neighborhood intersections to assist drivers with navigating around the route or getting in and out of the neighborhood by car, as needed.
