Cyclovia Sunday: An opportunity to try new transportation modes

Tucson, AZ (March 23, 2022) – With rising gas prices, this Sunday’s Cyclovia Tucson event is the perfect opportunity to try a day without a car. Join families and community members making their way car-free to Cyclovia, to enjoy the five-mile block party. The City of Tucson has kept Sun Tran streetcar and bus fares free for you and the public. Alternatively, you can try one of the City’s great bike boulevards to get to the route.

Streets will be closed to cars and open to people to walk, roll, bike, and play on the route connecting Downtown Tucson and the City of South Tucson. At one end is Jacome Plaza and at the other end is Mission View Elementary. People of all ages and abilities are invited to this free event Sunday, March 27th from 9am to 3pm.

Living Streets Alliance, organizer of the event, invites the public to make the entire day a car-lite or car-free outing by utilizing public transit or riding bikes to and from the event. Consider joining thousands of people in celebrating the many ways to travel in our city.

The following options are different ways to travel to Cyclovia in the spirit of a car-free day.

Traveling by Bus

The public transit SunTran bus runs every 30 or 60 minutes on the weekend depending on the route. Find detailed routes by getting directions on Google Maps from your house to your arrival destination and select the transit mode. If you’re arriving downtown, navigate to Ronstadt Transit Center. Joining us midway? Navigate to Santa Rita Park. If you’d like to start from South Tucson, navigate to Mission View Elementary. If you bike or roll to Cyclovia, consider riding the Sun Tran bus home after a long day out at the event.

Traveling by Sun Link Modern Streetcar

Walk to or park at Mercado San Agustin to the west or the University of Arizona at Helen St/Warren Ave to the east and ride to the Downtown Banner–University Medicine Hub at Jácome Plaza.

Stops at Stone Ave/Broadway Blvd (westbound) and Stone Ave/Congress St (eastbound) will deliver you right to the route.

Traveling by Bicycle

Find and plan your route here: https://gismaps.pagnet.org/bikewaysmap/ and select Options > View Legend to orient yourself with different route markers. Don’t forget to take advantage of free bike repair and free youth helmets when you arrive at Cyclovia. Bike repair can be found at every Activity Hub, while youth helmets will be available at all Info Booths along the route.

Downtown hubs are accessible via 6th Ave from the north (walk your bike through underpass construction at Toole), The Loop/St Mary’s from the west, or 9th St/4th Ave from the east. Join the middle of the route via the El Paso/Southwestern Greenway (head north from intersection at 8th Ave).

Or, arrive in South Tucson from The Loop at 8th Ave + El Paso/Southwestern Greenway (Near 35th St).

Bonus: A Sun Tran bus will be parked at the Drachman Montessori Hub. You can practice getting your bike on and off the bus bike rack in a low-pressure situation.

Renting a Bicycle or Scooter

Want to rent a bike for the day? Find a TuGo Bike Share location near you to rent and ride to the route or stop by a TuGo station on the route.

Downtown stations can be found at Stone/Alameda, Congress/5th Ave & 6th Ave/Congress St, and mid-route stations can be found at 6th Ave/W 26th St & 10th Ave/La Paz St.

At Five Points, where Stone meets 6th Ave and 18th St, TuGo Bike Share and Razor Scooters will be set up with rentals for Cyclovia attendees at the Micromobility Hub.
