URGENT: Take action to preserve federal funding for biking, walking, and safer streets

[Note: we are sharing this call to action created by our allies at America Walks. Huge thanks to them for organizing this information!)

The Trump administration has frozen over $3 billion allocated to infrastructure projects that support walking, biking, and safe streets and has threatened to eliminate key programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All and Reconnecting Communities entirely.

Congress took action to fund safer streets and more connected communities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Now, it’s your turn to fight for the walking movement.

Tell Congress, and members of your state government, they need to stick up for the investments that make it easier for members of your community to walk and bike with confidence through their neighborhoods.

USDOT has given states a February 18 deadline (TOMORROW!) before they start eliminating entire funding programs.

That means billions more dollars for bikeable, walkable communities could vanish overnight. Without this funding, progress will stall. The federal transportation programs the Trump administration seeks to cut provide huge public benefit: they fund sidewalks in small towns, they make sure children are able to walk to school safely, they repair the harm highways have caused to communities, and more.

Your representatives in government need to push back. But they won’t unless they hear from you. Tell them to fight for programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All, Reconnecting Communities, and others that fund improvements for walking, biking, and transit in your community.

Webinar: School Streets: Enhancing Neighborhoods in Paris & Barcelona

Both Barcelona and Paris have School Streets programs that have successfully transformed over 200 streets into low-traffic areas, make them greener, safer and healthier places for children, families and neighbors. School streets programs aim to improve the quality of these public spaces through street re-designs, traffic calming measures, the removal of car parking and the addition of street furniture and vegetation. Tune into this webinar to find out how we can replicate this model here in the U.S.

(Note if you miss the live webinar on Tuesday, February 18th, there will also be a recording available after from Cities for Everyone with Gil)
